Now that Hurricane Sandy is over and the recovery has begun, we would like to provide you with some tips to make sure that your computers are not damaged as the power comes back on.

PLEASE HAVE ALL COMPUTER EQUIPMENT UNPLUGGED UNTIL POWER IS RESTORED TO YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS!

There can be a surge when power is restored which can damage your computer equipment. We also recommend unplugging other electronic equipment such as televisions, stereos, etc.

After your power is restored:

Plug everything back in. Everything should be ok. If you have issues, we have provided solutions for the most common problems below:

My computer won’t turn on!

  1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the computer.

  2. Leave it unplugged for 30 seconds.

  3. Plug the power cord back in and try to turn the computer on again.

  4. If it still doesn’t turn on, there could be problem with the power supply or motherboard. Please give us a call if you think this is the case.

My internet will not work!

  1. First, call your internet service provider to verify that service has been restored to your area.

  2. Upon confirmation from your ISP, unplug both your cable modem and wireless router. If you have Verizon FIOS, both your modem and wireless router are combined into one device.

  3. Plug your cable modem in. Give it at least 2 minutes to boot up.

  4. Plug your wireless router in. Give it at least 1 minute to boot up.

  5. Try connecting to the internet. If it still does not work, it is possible that your modem or router was damaged from the power surge. Please give us a call and we will be happy to assist you.
